Dermal filler treatment for glabella lines

Dermal filler treatment for glabella lines

Lines and wrinkles are one of the earliest signs of ageing to be visible on the face, and these often include glabella lines. So what are glabella lines? And why should you choose dermal filler treatment for glabella lines? Well, here at The Skin and Wellbeing Clinic, we are Preston’s leading aesthetic practitioners and we provide a range of treatment options, including dermal fillers, chemical peels and laser hair removal. As a result, we have produced this guide to everything you should know about glabella lines and dermal filler treatment.

What are glabella lines?

Glabella lines are also known as frown lines. These are vertical lines that appear on your forehead, above the bridge of the nose in between the eyes. These often form the appearance of the number 11 at the edge of the brows. This region of the face is known as the glabellar complex, hence being called the glabella or glabellar lines.

What causes glabella lines?

So, why do these glabella lines develop, and why do they appear earlier for some people than others? Well, these are simply expression lines that are formed when you move your muscles to form particular facial expressions, including frowning. As part of the ageing process, the skin loses collagen and elastin, and this prevents the skin from returning to it’s original position. As a result, the frown lines will stay even when you are no longer frowning. These glabella lines tend to be deeper and more obvious than other lines around the eyes, because the skin in this region is thicker.

The appearance of glabella lines can be effected by:

  • UV exposure
  • Smoking
  • Genetic make-up

These glabella or frown lines can make you look angry, or mad, even when you’re not. And this can make it difficult for other people to recognize your emotions, while also being challenging for you to deal with.

Why should you choose dermal filler treatment for glabella lines?

Dermal filler treatment for glabella lines can be a very effective option. Dermal fillers are injections of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found throughout the body, particularly the skin. Hyaluronic acid can add volume and hydrate your skin cells, keeping individual skin components, like elastin and collagen nourished and refreshed. This increase in volume is the number one reason why dermal fillers are often used for cheeks and lips, to add volume and reshape the face. But when applied in a small volume, dermal fillers can fill out deep lines, like frown lines. This smooths and softens the appearance of the lines, so that they are no longer deep and obvious. As a result, you can not only look younger, but you can also look more like yourself too.

Dermal fillers are not a permanent solution though, and these will generally need “topping up” every three to six months.
