Dermal fillers can be a very effective option for fighting the signs of ageing, and maintaining a youthful appearance. But what are dermal fillers and how do they work?
Book An AppointmentWhat are dermal fillers?
There is not a lot of clarity out there about what exactly dermal fillers are. We know they are great for adding volume to the skin, but what are they made of? Well, most high quality fillers are now made from hylauronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance that is already produced by your body. When injected, this substance can hydrate and volumise your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
So, how does this process work? Well, essentially fillers are simply an injection of this hylauronic acid, under the skin. Different skin types and skin problems will need to be injected at different levels, from the epidermis, all the way to the sub-dermis. Although for most fine lines and wrinkles, the acid will be injected just under the top layer, the epidermis.
Once injected, the hylauronic acid hydrates your skin, as it holds onto a lot of moisture. And it also volumises your skin too, which can be useful for adding structure and contours to your face.
One of the questions we are often asked about dermal fillers, is do they hurt? Well, while being injected you could experience some discomfort. That’s why we always apply an anesthetic cream to the area, before we begin. This will alleviate any pain or discomfort you might feel, during the procedure.
This leads on to the next question, will there be pain after the procedure? Well, the simple answer is no. There will be some redness and tenderness, and maybe a small amount of swelling, typical for any skin injury. But this should clear up within a few days.
Dermal fillers do not last forever. This is because the hylauronic acid is used by the body, so eventually, there will be non left. The length of time it takes this to happen varies for individuals, but you will usually need another treatment around the 4-6 month mark. For some people, dermal fillers can last up to a year!
Dermal fillers can be injected into the skin in a range of facial locations, including the cheeks, chin, jawline and lips. This means you can fight the signs of ageing in a range of areas, and add volume and contour too.

Aftercare
Improve. Hydrate. Glow.
Many of the amazing benefits of dermal fillers are the option to return to your day to day activities almost immediately, feeling both confident in your new appearance and revitalised. Unlike many treatments, dermal fillers offer subtle results, which is what most people prefer. Leading many people to look like a better version of themselves, without others knowing exactly what you have done, just knowing you look better.
Most dermal fillers are developed to not only improve visual benefits from the outside, but many dermafillers are based on hyaluronic acid or collagen. These amazing elements are already naturally produced and will benefit your skin by leaving your skin hydrated and plump. So not only does your appearance glow, but your skin continues to benefit long after your treatment.

Other potential side effect may be some bruising; however this can generally be avoided by following the advice given by your aesthetics nurse.
