Getting rid of unwanted hair is a common concern for a large number of men and women. From leg and facial hair, to chest hair and arm hair, we generally spend a large amount of time grooming and removing this. Laser hair removal is a great solution that can provide a long term, permanent solution. But there are many myths surrounding this, that can prevent some clients from considering this treatment. So what are the most common myths about laser hair removal? Well, as Preston’s leading aesthetic practitioners, here at The Skin and Wellbeing Clinic, we offer a range of high quality, effective aesthetic treatment options, including dermal fillers, chemical peels and laser hair removal. And this is our guide to debunking these popular myths.

What are the most common myths about laser hair removal?

There are a numebr of popular myths that people do tend to believe regarding laser hair removal. And as Preston’s leading experts, it’s our job to set the record straight. So, what are these myths? Well, there are several, including:

  1. Laser hair removal is painful and damaging for the skin – This myth probably stems from the use of the word laser in the title, and it isn’t helped by the reputation of early laser hair removal programs. But technology has advanced a lot since then, and with professional treatment, you will find the procedure is almost pain free. In fact, for most people laser hair removal is a much less painful procedure than waxing. There is also no downtime after the treatment, and there are no painful lasting effects.
  2. You only need one or two treatments – While laser hair removal is fast acting, it is a gradual process that involves a couple of repeated sessions for the best possible results. This is usually around 6 to 8 treatments, not just one or two. This is because with each cycle, the hair follicles are gradually destroyed, until they no longer return.
  3. All of the hair will grow back -It can seem too good to be true, but actually, laser hair removal can remove your hair permanently, after a number of high quality, professional treatments. For some people, the results can last for just a few years, while for a significant amount of people, the results are permanent. Each persons hormone levels, and genetics can determine the length of time it takes for hair to grow back, but it is certainly a myth to say that the hair will grow back, when in many cases, this is not the case.
  4. A lot of people can’t have laser hair removal – This is a myth that many people do believe, but it is not actually correct. In fact, the reverse is true. Laser hair removal is suitable for all skin types. However, it is not as effective for very light hair, and some shades of red. This means that for most people, laser hair removal is a perfect choice.
