Should I combine microneedling with dermaplaning?

microneedling benefits

Whether you want to fight the signs of ageing with popular anti wrinkle treatments, or you want to improve the condition and hydration of your skin, we can offer something for everyone here at the Skin and Wellbeing Clinic. We are Preston’s leading aesthetic practitioners, and we offer a wide range of aesthetic procedures that can have transformative results. This includes microneedling and dermaplaning treatments. So what are these treatment options, and should you consider combining microneedling with dermaplaning?
What should you expect from a dermaplaning treatment?

As an exfoliating and rejuvenating treatment option, dermaplaning can help to improve a range of skin conditions and complaints, including:

  • dry skin
  • acne (although dermaplaning with open sores should be avoided)
  • uneven skin tones
  • light scarring

This procedure involves gently remove the top layers of the skin with a small surgical scalpel. This will also remove any villus hair (peach fuzz), which can trap oils and dirt close to the surface of the skin, resulting in blocked pores. Any dry or dead skin cells will also be removed. This triggers the growth of new cells, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin.

What should you expect from a microneedling treatment?

This is an aesthetic procedure that can help to induce collagen, and rejuvenate your skin. This can help tackle:

  • uneven skin tones
  • uneven skin texture
  • acne scars
  • sun spots
  • lines and wrinkles

Microneedling involves using very fine, small needles to prick the skin causing a minor surface injury. To repair, the body will produce more collagen, and new skin cells, resulting in smoother, firmer skin and cell rejuvenation.

So, what are the advantages of combining microneedling with dermaplaning?

There are many good reasons to combine these two types of facial treatment together. Dermaplaning before microneedling can bring a range of benefits and advantages including:

  • Deeper cell rejuvenation, exfoliation and regeneration – because the villus hair and dead skin has already been removed during the dermaplaning procedure, the microneedles can reach slightly deeper into the skin, to trigger exfoliation process further into the skin.
  • More effective, visible results, especially for large pores, uneven skin tones and scarring – dermaplaning doesn’t just prepare the surface of the skin, it can also start to change it through exfoliation, and the removal of dead skin cells. To then apply microneedling on top of the this, means that any microneedling results will be greatly increased, especially those relating to the quality of the skin.
  • Increased penetration of any topical products – after both a dermaplaning treatment and a microneedling treatment, you can expect any skin care products to be more readily absorbed by the body, increasing the quality and hydration of the skin. However, after microneedling, it is advised that you should wait at least 24 hours before applying any treatments, as the skin can be incredibly sensitive.

While you can opt for a microneedling treatment after dermaplaning, you should not consider dermaplaning after a microneedling treatment. This is because microneedling requires more downtime, as well as rest for your skin.
