Anti-wrinkle injections tackle more than just wrinkles!

When it comes to ageing, and reducing the appearance of ageing on the skin, there has never been more treatments and non-surgical procedures available. Botox is probably one of the most well known treatments, and this is also known as anti-wrinkle injections. However, these anti-wrinkle injections tackle more than just wrinkles. In fact, the neurotoxin can help to tackle a wide range of other issues. But what do these include? Well, here at The Skin and Wellbeing Clinic, we offer a range of aesthetic procedures including anti-wrinkle injections, as Preston’s number one aesthetic clinic. As a result, we have produced this guide to the alternative uses for Botox injections.

Can anti-wrinkle injections tackle more than just wrinkles?

While Botox might be most renowned for the ability to reduce wrinkles, smooth out expression lines, and preserve a youthful appearance, it actually has medical roots. In fact, tackling wrinkles is only one of many benefits to Botox.

What else can Botox treat?

So, what other conditions or issues can Botox be used to treat? Well, there are several, including:

  • migraines
  • excessive sweating
  • teeth grinding

How can Botox treat migraines?

For people experiencing chronic migraines, for more than 15 days of each month, Botox can be a great way to help ease the often debilitating symptoms. But how does this work?

By injecting Botox into pain fibres that are responsible for the headaches and migraines, the chemicals associated with pain will be blocked. As a result, the activation of pain networks in the brain will be prevented, so Botox can actually help to prevent migraines before they even start.

However, using anti-wrinkle injections for migraines does take time to work. Patients have reported that after two Botox treatments, the number of migraine days was reduced by half. One treatment can last up to 3 moths.

How can Botox treat excessive sweating?

If you struggle with excessive sweating, that does not improve with prescription antiperspirant, you could be a good candidate for underarm Botox. In this case, Botox works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands, underneath the arm, which are usually overactive, when excessive sweating occurs. Botox has been FDA-approved for people who sweat excessively from their armpits. Off label treatments may include preventing sweating in other areas of the body, like the feet and hands.

How can Botox treat teeth grinding?

Grinding teeth can lead to a number of symptoms, including jaw pain, headaches, and damage to the teeth themselves. But this is usually a subconscious activity or habit, that is frequently triggered by stress or deep thought. So how can Botox help? Well Botox can help to prevent jaw clenching and teeth grinding, by reducing the local muscle activity. Injections directly into the muscle attached to the jaw can dramatically reduce muscle movement, and even prevent involuntary muscle movement too. This will start working within the first three to seven days, however the overall result will be seen within 6-8 weeks.
